Quick Questions with Chris B: Full Stack Developer

When he's not exploring New Zealand, spending time with his family or dreaming about creating a billion dollar app, Chris B is a full stack developer here at SwipedOn HQ in New Zealand. We caught up with SwipedOns World Line Dance Champion himself, Chris B, for a quick fire round of questions to learn more about a day in the life at SwipedOn.
What does a day in the life of you at SwipedOn look like?
The first and most important task of the day is coffee, then I review my current task list and check for any additions that may have come in overnight. Once I have my tasks laid out for the day, our team may have a standup meeting all together or one to one chats and maybe a little bit of banter. Once I have a plan for the day, I start coding, testing, reviewing, and then deploying with the rest of the development team.
What do you like about working at SwipedOn?
I like the team here... Great collaboration, honesty, friendliness, and work environment. Plus the surprise donuts and treats that appear every so often (but does no favours for my waist 😆)
Quite a change from the corporate environments I have worked in most of my career.

What do you particularly like about what we’re doing with SwipedOn?
SwipedOn is constantly working on great new features for the end-users. As a result we get to work with some great technologies. We have a great work-life balance here which creates a fresh and creative environment. Even my kids have said they want to work with SwipedOn when they grow-up.
What three words would you use to describe your role?
1. Creative
2. Thinker
3. Action

3. Action
What is your SwipedOn screensaver?
Photos of my family, friends and life events... Always puts a smile on my face.
What did you do in your previous working life?
I have worked in the medical technology sector for the last 20 years in ICT management. I used to manage all operational technology matters for the last two companies I worked for, traveling around the world to our different bases. It was a very challenging role but I had a good team behind me. The role over the years gave me access to exciting technologies and really helped grow my Systems Architecture, Systems Engineering, Software Development, and Management knowledge.
What do you do in your free time?
I love exploring New Zealand as I am fresh off the boat (well, plane). It's such a lovely country and is very different from Wales, where I'm from in the UK (except the sheep and hills). I also like DIY, movies and of course spending time with my family.
What is still left on your bucket list?
1. Visit Egypt2. Learn to play a instrument
3. Make a billion dollar app
What’s on your SwipedOn playlist?
Rock of Ages (The Album), Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley
If you were stuck on a desert island and you could choose one person from the SwipedOn team to come with you, who would you take and why?
Oh tricky question, I think it would be Adam... I think he is a well-traveled and friendly person with lots of interesting stories, I do enjoy listening/overhearing some of Adams comments in the office.
