Quick Questions with Ethan: Compliance Finance Administrator

Written by Lou Burton | Wed, Feb 7, '24

Some of us chase summer, Ethan chases winter. โ„๏ธ When he's not looking for the best snowboarding in the world (we're not exaggerating, he's currently in Japan), playing golf or dreaming about jumping out of a helicopter with his snowboard, Ethan is our Compliance Finance Administrator here at SwipedOn HQ. We caught up with him to find out what a day in the life is like at SwipedOn HQ in Tauranga, New Zealand.

In a nutshell, what do you do at SwipedOn?

I am the Compliance Finance Administrator. Basically means I'm a jack of all trades, but a master of none. ๐Ÿ˜†

What does a day in the life of you at SwipedOn look like?

The majority of my day is spent completing and managing tenders being sent in from potential clients and our sales executives. When I'm not busy helping with expansion of accounts and making the payment process smooth for new customers, you'll find me sipping on a Folk coffee (or two ๐Ÿ‘€ ) and free cookies to keep the motivation levels high throughout the day. ๐Ÿช โ˜•๏ธ

What are some of your favourite things about being part of the team here?

The banter and friendliness of the whole company. Even though everyone comes from different backgrounds, anyone no matter what their role, is super approachable and easy to communicate with.

What do you particularly like about what weโ€™re doing with SwipedOn?

The simplicity of how the system operates for not only our customers, but also the staff here at SwipedOn.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

1. Accuracy

2. Analytics

3. Repetition

Do you have a favourite motto or mantra you live by?

"This too, shall pass"

What did you do in your previous working life?

In the last few years I've been fortunate to work at Zespri as a Maturity Harvest Co-ordinator. Prior to that I was part of a graduate program at Trustpower, where I gained valuable experience with direct and indirect procurement practices. But when I was fresh out of high school and studying, I spent four winter seasons at Cardrona Alpine Resort as an Alpine Elevation Technician (aka a 'Lifty').

What do you do in your free time?

During winter you'll find me snowboarding as often as I can (this applies to both northern and southern hemisphere winters). Then in the warmer months I'll most likely be at a golf course, mountain biking or at the pub with my mates.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

1. Watch a Chicago Bulls home game at the United Centre ๐ŸŸ๏ธ

2. Heli-boarding in Alaska ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ‚ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

3. Whitewater raft the Landsborough River in the South Island ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Whatโ€™s on your SwipedOn playlist?

It depends on how much work I have on, but my current rotation is a mixture of Home Brew's new album Run It Back and Chase & Status 2 Ruff Vol 1 ๐ŸŽง

If you were stuck on a desert island and you could choose one person from the SwipedOn team to come with you, who would you take and why?

Based off the Movember bake off fundraiser, I'd pick Micah! The man can bake a mouth-watering keylime pie ๐Ÿคค

Letโ€™s end this with a random fact about youโ€ฆ or a random fact you love!

I've broken every bone in my right arm ๐Ÿ’ช
