When he's not piloting a recreational flight, playing the piano or dreaming about going skydiving, Kaan is a full stack developer here at SwipedOn HQ in New Zealand. We caught up with the elusive man of many talents to find out what a day in the life is like for him at SwipedOn. Read on to meet Kaan.
I'm a software engineer here at SwipedOn, so in a nutshell, I do all things code-related. I type special words into my computer which makes fancy things show on your computer β¨
My day is crammed full code code! It starts with me being the first one in the office most days. I code for an hour or two, then head to my team's morning stand up meeting (don't let this fool you, we aren't practicing stand up comedy). I then code for another hour or two, have lunch, then code for the last few hours until the day ends. There are occasionally other meetings sprinkled into some days, but the majority is code, code, code!
The people are amazing. I have never met a group of people as awesome as the ones here. Everyone is unique and is incredibly inclusive of each other. We get along with one other so well. There is always a bit of office banter going on and vibes are high π
I like that we are modernising a relatively old technology. Bringing the traditional pen and paper visitor management into the modern technological era.
I don't recall the exact phrasing, but it goes something like: "If you love your job, you never have to work a day in your life". I enjoy what I do here at SwipedOn so much that it genuinely doesn't feel like a job. It feels more like one big personal project that I'm creating alongside everyone else here.
I was lucky enough to have my position here SwipedOn be my first "adult" job after graduating Uni. I had previous jobs like working in an office doing data entry, freelance web development for a little bit during Uni, and my first job as a teenager was working at a fish & chip shop!
I like playing video games, working on personal code projects, driving, playing the piano, and I also enjoy flying a lot.
1. Go skydiving πͺ
2. Get my private pilot's license βοΈ
3. Travel to Dubai, visit the Burj Khalifa and experience the illusive double sunset π
(You might see a sky theme here π )
I can find music I like in any genre, but I really like Electronic. I've been really into "Chillstep" recently, which is a form of Electronic music, but with a chill and relaxed vibe. I enjoy trying new music recommendations. Some of my favourite songs I would have never known about if it hadn't been for a friend introducing me to it! π΅
I'd pick Adam. We'd probably just end up laughing at silly Simpsons references and quotes until we get rescued or die ποΈ
The incomprehensible scale of the universe. Zoom out and there are about 2 trillion or so galaxies (TRILLION!), each containing 100 billion or so stars. And that's only within the area of the universe that we can see.
Zoom in and it's just as incredible. One teaspoon of water contains about 6 sextillion atoms (that's 21 zeros!). Our universe is so incomprehensibly incomprehensible.
