Quick Questions with Reece: Senior Full Stack Developer

When he's not dreaming about travelling through Vietnam by motorbike or spending some time living on a houseboat, Reece is our full stack developer here at SwipedOn HQ in New Zealand. We caught up with Reece to find out what a day in the life at SwipedOn is like for him.

What does a day in the life of you at SwipedOn look like?

Normally, I like to blast my eyes open with a coffee, and the coffee machine here is awesome. Then, because I mostly work with a remote team, I catch up with the goings on, what work has been approved for deployment and what things need my attention the most. Lots of morning bants gets the blood flowing before it's all about the key slapping ⌨ Often there is a fair bit of table tennis sprinkled throughout the day too!

What do you like about working at SwipedOn?

I like the people the most, we're a good bunch and we kinda all know it. We support people in need, we lean on each other, and together we stand tall. The work that we are able to produce is always well celebrated and over all the vibes here are good. Makes you want to work harder.

What do you particularly like about what we’re doing with SwipedOn?

I am actually part of the sister company, which is very exciting, because I get to be a part of taking SwipedOn into the next chapter. So the continuous growth and exploring of opportunity is what puts a fire in my belly. 🔥

What three words would you use to describe your role?

1. Challenging
2. Innovating
3. Interesting
4. Flexible (Get it?! Because they allowed me to have more than 3 words 😆 )

What is your SwipedOn screensaver?

It's for ever changing, but currently it is a VW Beetle from the SpeedHunters catalog.

What did you do in your previous working life?

I worked as a full stack developer in the Kiwifruit industry working with the automation of the packing lines and before then, I was a developer that often worked with a bunch of clients where I would be injected into teams to help develop their solutions.

What do you do in your free time?

I like to fish, do some DIY, play some video games, hang out with mates, generally open to anything that sounds like a good time.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

1. Go to Bonneville Salt Flats for speed week
2. Spend a good chunk of time on a houseboat
3. Travel across Vietnam on a motorbike

What’s on your SwipedOn playlist?

I have been listening to "Coffee Shop Vibes" recently. The calm beats and the lack of lyrics lets me get into the zone pretty quickly. Highly reccommend.

If you were stuck on a desert island and you could choose one person from the SwipedOn team to come with you, who would you take and why?

Easy, Kev. That man is pure hype. Any idea would be a good idea with him around.

Let's end this with a weird fact about you...

I once cut a log in half with an axe, it took me 10 hours. Couldn't use my hands after. Really makes you learn how good chainsaws are!
