Scott is the creative pillar of SwipedOn. He spends his days working on our product user interface and user experience. When he’s not drumming up creative concepts, he can be found drumming his electronic kit, busting wheelies on his Benelli or starring in music videos. Legend!
What does a day in the life of you at SwipedOn look like?
Typically we start the day with our morning 'standup' meeting where the development team cover the scheduled jobs for their particular role. This is a great time to see what the wider team is working on and what features and updates will soon be released.
My day can vary a lot as I work on a wide array of projects from the UI/UX of the iOS app and the admin dashboard to the website and marketing material. One of the great things about this role is that I am part of the product, marketing and development teams! This also means I can ensure brand consistency across all our branches.
What do you like about working at SwipedOn?
Every day is different. Sometimes I have my head buried in code, other times it’s coming up with creative ideas for designs or working out the best user experience for a new app feature. It’s nice to have a variety of challenges. The team that our SwipedOn founders have put together is amazing, I enjoy the support we are able to offer each other to work towards the best end result possible.
What do you particularly like about what we’re doing with SwipedOn?
I love that we are willing to showcase our brand as something that can be fun and have a personality. We recently rebranded and opted to avoid corporate blue and use a bold orange and brighter supporting colours, it really reflects our personality! I also think it’s great that we plant a tree for every new customer that signs up. I like that we have chosen to be socially and environmentally conscious as a business.
What three words would you use to describe your role?
Creative. Challenging. Orange! (when your core brand colour is orange and you are the designer, you see a lot of it!)
What is your SwipedOn screensaver?
My personal logo in black on a dark grey background. It’s a play on the idea of gloss black printed on matte black. The buttons are also black and I simply show a “+” for sign in and a “-” for sign out. Super minimal!
What did you do in your previous working life?
I’ve been working as an online creative for almost 20 years now working from Junior Designer to Creative Director. I was previously a Creative Director managing a design team focussed on ecommerce website development.
Tell us a little-known fact about you …
I starred in a music video with an American artist for a remix that I wrote.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
See Radiohead play live. Perform at the Atonal festival in Berlin. Go to space.
What’s on your SwipedOn playlist?
Currently listening to… David Bowie, Goldfrapp, Subheim, Swarm Intelligence, Joy Division, Amulets, Certain Creatures, Ital Tek and Drab Majesty.
If you were stuck on a desert island and you could choose one person from the SwipedOn team to come with you, who would you take and why?
Maybe our CEO Hadleigh but I think his Dad jokes would make me attempt to swim back to civilization, and I’m not a great long distance swimmer. Or, I'd probably take Ben, our Head of Product because he has an endless supply of hilarious stories from back in his superyacht days.
