Quick Questions with Jasmine Hindson: Android Developer Intern

Last summer, we had the pleasure of working with Jasmine (Jas), SwipedOn’s first ever intern! Jasmine is in her final year of studying a Bachelor of Applied Science, with a double major in Software Engineering and Information Science, at the University of Otago. With an appetite for learning as well as the occasional Friday office donut, it’s fair to say Jas has fitted into SwipedOn life quite nicely and acts as an awesome role model for women in tech.

What does a day in the life of you at SwipedOn look like?

A day in the life of SwipedOn starts off with the pain of rolling out of bed at 6:15am and taking my usual commute to work through the busy traffic. But once I reach the office that's when the real fun begins. I make my morning coffee, plan out my tasks for the day, and enjoy the fizzing energy that flows through the door as each SwipedOn employee comes in. Then the rest of the day tends to be me having a mare with Android Studio and Java.

What do you like about working at SwipedOn?

The positive energy of everyone to work hard and get things done as best as possible. There is also a lot of great chat and support from all the employees here!

What do you particularly like about what we’re doing with SwipedOn?

Branching out into development of mobile apps is pretty cool, and it's a big step into offering more flexibility and options to our users.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Java Android Learner.

What is your SwipedOn screensaver?

A pretty sunset.

What did you do in your previous working life?

I've been working in hospitality since 16 years old. This included waitressing and making the occasional mean cup of coffee. I also got into a bit of clothing retail.

What do you do in your free time?

After work, I like going to the gym as it's a good way to stay fit and stretch out after sitting in front of a computer for most of the day. In the weekends, I like to go to the beach, explore new places, and eat yummy food.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Go to a massive music festival overseas such as Tomorrow Land, Ultra, etc. Travel to Japan. Adopt a dog, preferably a Golden Retriever (I've always wanted a dog).

What’s on your SwipedOn playlist?

It really depends on the kind of the day I'm having but the usual playlist includes: John Mayer, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, etc.

If you were stuck on a desert island and you could choose one person from the SwipedOn team to come with you, who would you take and why?

I'd pick Jason Grinter. I choose Jason because if I was stuck on a desert island, I would probably ask a lot of questions as to how to get off the island, and Jason always answers my questions and seems to know how to fix the problem.

Let’s end this with a weird fact about you…

Apparently I have an American accent, yet I am not American.
